TEP earns solar power recognition
07:02 PM MST on Thursday, July 24, 2008
Tucson Electric Power has been named one of the nation’s top 10 “most solar integrated utililties” in a report released by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA. “TEP has been a pioneer in the utility industry, installing a utility-owned large-scale PV system long before almost any of it’s peers, and offering incentives for it’s customers to install and interconnect solar to it’s grid,” said SEPA Executive Director Julia Hamm.
In the report, TEP was recognized for both it’s company-owned installations, including the 4.6 megawatt solar array in Springerville, as well as the photovoltaic systems that hundreds of customers have installed on their rooftops through the company’s SunShare program. Last year, TEP generated enough solar energy to meet the annual electric needs of about 925 typical Tucson homes.
