Tucson Fire's Alpha Truck Program up for national award
07:11 PM MST on Tuesday, August 12, 2008
The National League of Cities (NLC) has picked the Tucson Fire Department’s (TFD) Alpha Truck Program as a finalist for the 2008 Awards for Municipal Excellence. Alpha Trucks are pickup trucks staffed by two paramedics who respond to non-emergency calls. In the past, TFD would dispatch a fire engine, ladder truck, or paramedic unit to these type of calls.
“As Chair of the Public Safety Subcommittee, I am thrilled for the opportunity to showcase the great work of our Tucson Fire Department on the national scene,” said City Councilmember Rodney Glassman. “I am extremely pleased that the NLC judges recognized the fine program as one worthy of their consideration.”
NLC will announce the winner of the award in November.
