U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis Port of Entry stopped a drug smuggling attempt on Tuesday, August 19, when they found 74 packages of marijuana hidden inside two ladders. A 40-year old driver of a 1998 Dodge Ram was behaving suspiciously while being questioned at the border, and further inspection of his vehicle led to the discovery of the marijuana.
“Smugglers attempt unusual methods to get their narcotics into the United States, but our officers will still manage to catch them,” said Port Director William Brooks. The marijuana weighed 211 pounds, and has an estimated street value of $343,000.
