Water Harvesting celebration scheduled for August 23
07:59 PM MST on Wednesday, August 20, 2008
The Highland Vista Neighborhood Association is holding a celebration of the completion of their park and water harvesting improvements on Saturday, August 23. The project is the first water harvesting project of it’s type funded through Pima County’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Program.
The project has turned a parcel of land north of the Arcadia Wash that used to turn muddy and was a haven for insects during monsoon into an educational riparian sensory garden with native Sonoran Desert vegetation. The improvements will alleviate the old drainage issues and will also capture and store rainwater.
The celebration begins at 9 a.m. at the 2030/Highland Vista Park, located at 315 North Woodland Vista, northwest of Broadway and Craycroft. Following the dedication, award-winning Tucson author Brad Lancaster will hold a workshop on rainwater harvesting.
