Governor Napolitano speaks at convention
08:19 PM MST on Tuesday, August 26, 2008
During day two of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano took the podium. As chair of the Democrats’ Platform Committee, Napolitano praised Barack Obama’s economic plan and laid out some of it’s specifics, including a $1,000 tax cut for middle class Americans, and a $4,000 tax credit for college students who do community service.
She also said she hopes that John McCain will extend the political tradition of Arizona Presidential candidates. “Barry Goldwater ran for President and he lost,” she said. “Mo Udall ran for President, and he lost. Bruce Babbit ran for President, and he lost.”
Earlier in the day, Napolitano joined Michelle Obama and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden for an economic roundtable, also discussing health care, jobs, and housing.
