Church promoting sex classes

09:52 PM MST on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

By Deanna Morgan, Fox 11 News

What does religion have to do with your sex life? It’s a good question, and one Tucson church thinks the two go together well.

The youth pastor at First Southern Baptist Church says talking about sex in church is important. Another church thinks it’s important enough to place a full-page advertisement in the Tucson Weekly. The picture in the ad is meant to grab your attention, but for reasons you probably wouldn’t think.

Puresextucson.com is a new website advertising classes about sex, but in a Godly way. “The best sex we’ll ever have is within the marriage union,” says Jeremiah McDuffie, pastor of the Element Community Church.

The provocative website name was created by McDuffie, who plans to talk about sex for five weeks starting in September. “I think God has created us to be incredibly sexual beings, and the Bible talks about sex quite a bit, believe it or not,” says McDuffie.

He wants the public to know about the upcoming sermons, so the church has advertised online, on cards, and in newspapers. McDuffie, who grew up in the Baptist Church, wants to help those people who struggle with sex. He says that he used to. “I was definitely highly addicted to pornography,” he says, and he feels this is the best way to go about it.

“You know, it’s really our mission to connect people to God and to each other,” he says. McDuffie says the church tried to advertise the website on billboards in Tucson, but the company that owns the billboards refused.
