The Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona is asking for monetary donations for it’s annual “Visit From St. Nicholas” program. For 12 years the program has put backpacks filled with books, toys and a toothbrush in the desks of low-income school children in pre-kindergarten through the second grade. Often it is the only present the child receives during the holiday season.

Due to the sluggish economy, the Center is in need of funding to cover the cost of 3,600 backpacks. The cost to sponsor a child is $25.
