Ms. Conner’s body was found in the bedroom of her home in the 2400 block of South Mission Road by relatives on July 28. Prior to Ortega’s confession, Ms. Conner’s death was classified as Death/Unknown Causes. Investigators say there were no obvious signs of physical trauma or signs of forced entry, but the disarray inside the house led them to conduct an investigation. Autopsy results were inconclusive.
Ortega was arrested on October 22 after forensic evidence connected him to the murder of 57-year old Magnolia Ortiz and the sexual assault of a 37-year old woman.
