$2 million in marijuana seized at checkpoint

More than 2,600 pounds of marijuana hidden in a load of watermelons was seized by Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agents at the I-19 checkpoint near Amado.

At about 8 p.m. on Monday, November 10, agents noticed a suspicious tractor trailer with a very nervous driver at the wheel. Upon further inspection, agents discovered 107 bundles of marijuana in the cargo area of the trailer, hidden in between cartons of watermelons.
The estimated street value of the drugs is more than $2 million. The driver was arrested and taken to the Nogales Border Patrol station, while the truck, trailer, and marijuana will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
