It's official: White Sox leaving town
08:18 PM MST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
The Chicago White Sox’ spring training days in Tucson are over. Pima County has approved an agreement with the team that allows them to leave Tucson Electric Park and begin their spring training in Glendale in February. The agreement was approved by the Pima County Board of Supervisors on November 18.
As part of the agreement, the White Sox will continue to play an annual game in Tucson to benefit local charities. The team’s new facility in Glendale, which will be shared with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is currently under construction.
“We are very pleased Pima County’s Board of Supervisors approved this agreement,” said White Sox Executive Vice President Howard Pizer. “We leave Tucson with only the best memories, including a World Series title in 2005.”
