Three members of a Nogales family have been sentenced for operating a large drug trafficking ring. 29-year old Sergio Haro and his parents, 52-year old Julio Haro-Verdugo, and 51-year old Lorenia Haro, were convicted in April on charges of transporting marijuana and cocaine into the U.S. from Mexico and furnishing it to buyers.
Sergio Haro was sentenced to life imprisonment, Julio Haro-Verdugo was sentenced to 292 months of imprisonment, and Lorenia Haro received a sentence of 144 months in prison. In addition, all three defendants were ordered to forfeit thousands of dollars in cash, numerous vehicles and various pieces of gold and diamond jewelry.
According to investigators, once the drugs were smuggled across the border, they were taken to stash houses in Rio Rico and Tucson where they were picked up by buyers from the central and southern United States. During the course of the investigation, more than 400 pounds of cocaine and over 11,000 pounds of marijuana were seized by law enforcement.
