Man dies in single vehicle wreck
08:36 PM MST on Sunday, November 30, 2008
A 20-year old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday, November 27 shortly before 2 a.m. Tucson Police say Rene Rios was a passenger in a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse being driven by his wife, 21-year old Leslie Rios, when it collided with a light pole at the intersection of South Midvale Park and West Valencia Road.
Rene Rios was pronounced dead at the scene, while Leslie Rios was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say Mrs. Rios was driving west on Valencia at an extremely high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle as she approached Midvale Park. Neither the driver or passenger were wearing a seatbelt, and both were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash. Investigators say both speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.
