Community Food Bank's hybrid electric refrigerated truck.
The new 2009 Peterbilt Hybrid Electric is a 20-foot refrigerated truck. Officials say it will allow the non-profit to add 13 retail locations to its daily food donation pickup routes, increasing its ability to meet the growing need for food assistance in Tucson.
"We are committed to protecting the Southern Arizona environment and hybrid technology is a perfect solution for the Community Food Bank," says Bill Carnegie, the President and CEO of the Bank.
The truck uses a hybrid-electric power system for improved fuel economy. It's expected the vehicle will have up to a 50% higher fuel efficiency than regular trucks and will also reduce tailpipe emissions.
The truck will go into the fleet at a dedication ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, January 23rd. It will be held at the CFB's 3003 South Country Club Road location.
