Police report reveals more about Phoenix prostitution ring

01:20 PM MST on Wednesday, March 14, 2007

By Brian Webb / KTVK-TV

A police report sheds new light on a growing problem in the Valley, child prostitution. A police report reveals new details of a recent prostitution ring, busted up just a few weeks ago, involving a 12- and a 15-year-old girl.

These stories are outlined in this police report including interviews with the girls.

Their stories could be about any prostitute really. The youngest one, the 12-year-old, said she was molested by her father and a repeat runaway.

Until one day at a mall she met the wrong man.

The girls were forced to work up to 16 hours a day, walking the streets, like 27th Avenue and Glendale.

Sometimes they were taken out of state, to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Until one night Phoenix detectives finally noticed what neighbors already knew.

Sometimes the sex would simply happen in the customers cars, other times in hotels like on Indian School Road.

The minimum price per sex act is $50.

The police report reveals the girls earned anywhere from $300 to $1300 a day, but all of the money going to their pimp.

Police arrested 25-year-old Michael Harris and he is accused of running the child prostitution ring.

The girls claim he used the same method of operation, nice and flattering at first.

Then constant threats and sometimes violence, like when he found out one of his girls, was pocketing some of her trick money.

When police raided the suspect’s home they found two women including Harris' 28-year-old girlfriend and a baby, plus, a little black book, possibly naming the johns who may soon be picked up themselves.

A pimp may have been stopped, but damage to the girls has already been done.

The report shows detectives getting frustrated with at least one of the girls, because her story kept changing.

Both girls are now with child protective services.

From reading this report, it seems all the girls got for turning tricks, was food, shelter, and some skimpy clothing.
