Two Missouri pastors survive lightning strike without injury
12:21 PM MST on Friday, May 11, 2007
(KMOV) -- Lightning is common in spring thunderstorms, but it can do some very uncommon things.
Two local golfers survived a lightning strike without a mark on them.
Kevin Hughes and Don Erehart are two of the pastors at First Free Evangelical Church in Manchester.
They've got quite a story to tell about their recent encounter with lightning.
They were playing golf at the Whitmoor Country Club in St. Charles and weren't worried about the lighting off in the distance.
They didn't see a flash from the sky, but both felt a surge from above go through their bodies.
Both men checked their heads and their toes but couldn't find any burn marks.
But the other golfers in the group smelled a burning smell and said let's get out of here.
That bolt from the blue gave Kevin a lingering tingle on his head and a shaky hand for Don and for both, a new respect for lightning and for life.
Hughes has had a headache since, but doesn't know if it was the lightning or allergies.
Erehart is thankful they weren't hurt and he's also glad the lightning didn't damage their golf shoes when it came out their feet.
