Two Va. Beach men arrested in slaying of gay porn producer in Pennsylvania
12:41 PM MST on Wednesday, May 16, 2007
Two men arrested in Virginia Beach are charged with killing a gay porn producer in Pennsylvania.
Police say 25-year-old Harlow Cuadra and 33-year-old Joseph Kerekes were arrested in Virginia Beach Tuesday. They are charged with homicide in the death of Bryan Charles Kocis. Authorities did not specify a motive. Both suspects live in the 1000 block of Stratem Court.
Investigators say just before his death, Kocis told a friend he was meeting Cuadra to talk about a modeling opportunity.
Police say they cracked the case when someone revealed an email sent by the victim before his death with Cuadra's picture on it. They were to meet 90 minutes before he died.
Cuadra's attorney believes his client was framed, that someone copy and pasted his photo off one of many web sites.
“It’s on a multiplicity of web sites and it's very easy to get it off of there and use it," attorney Barry Taylor said.
Kocis's body was found in late January by firefighters responding to a blaze at his home in Dallas Township, north of
Wilkes-Barre. An autopsy showed his throat had been slashed and he had been stabbed 28 times in the torso.
Investigators said the house was set on fire after he was killed.
Kocis' company, Cobra Video, produces and sells gay porn.
Caudra is an up-and-coming gay porn actor and escort. 13News has learned that he is well-known in area gay bars.
Harry Strait of Virginia Beach told 13News he chatted with Caudra in a gay chat room. Caudra invited him to his house in Birdneck Woods where he met both Kerekes and Caudra. He says they offered him a job working in gay porn, but he turned them down.

Caudra and Kerekes' home was searched Tuesday morning. Police did not report finding anything, but when they searched it in February, they seized a list of items, including a DNA sample, camcorders, firearms and computers. But, Caudra's attorney says his client is a legal male escort and not a killer.
"I can't imagine what police would say what the motive would be in this case," said Taylor.
Pennsylvania State Police have said they believe this had something to do with a rivalry between the two suspects' pornography website and the victim's gay porn production company.
Both suspects have been charged with being a fugitive from justice. They each face numerous charges in Pennsylvania, including homicide, conspiracy, arson, robbery, burglary, theft, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. Cuadra has been charged with an additional count of criminal use of a communications facility.
Virginia Beach Police searched the duo's home in Birdneck Woods on Tuesday looking for signs of money laundering, racketeering and prostitution.
A Beach Police spokeswoman says Cuadra and Kerekes will not face any charges in Virginia Beach.
Police say the men were arrested just after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Detectives spotted the pair driving down Virginia Beach Blvd. in a black BMW, and called for a marked police car to make a traffic stop. The men were taken into custody in the 3900 block of Va. Beach Blvd.
Both suspects are at the Virginia Beach jail denied bond.
