TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A judge has sentenced a Tucson man to 17 years in prison for his role in a fatal car crash that began as a street fight.
Pima County Superior Court Judge Michael J. Cruikshank sentenced 28-year-old Roman Alfonso Lopez-Valle on Tuesday to nine years in prison after a jury convicted him last month of manslaughter in the Aug. 27, 2007, death of 40-year-old Robert J. Bailey.
The judge also gave Lopez-Valle an additional five years for attempted manslaughter for injuring a passenger in Bailey's car.
Lopez-Valle also received two 7.5 year sentences for two counts of aggravated assault, which will be served concurrently with each other and with the nine-year manslaughter sentence.
Cruikshank added 3 years for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and 2.5 years for criminal damage for a total sentence of 17 years.
