MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- A charge of manslaughter has been filed against a man suspected of causing an accident that killed a Gilbert Highland High School student.
The Maricopa County Attorney's office says aggravated assault charges were also filed against 32-year-old Manuel Contreras-Galdean in connection with a car crash Saturday in Mesa that killed 16-year-old Kelly Tracy and seriously injured her brother, 17-year-old Matt Tracy.
Police say they were driving to the Gilbert Days Parade as members of the Highland High School marching band when the crash happened.
According to police, Contreras-Galdean failed to yield as he was making a left turn.
Mesa police believe Contreras-Galdean was drunk at the time of the early morning crash.
Contreras-Galdean is being held without bond. Police say he admitted to being in the country illegally.
