Dmitry Rashnitsov, Fox 11 News

A place known for sitting is stepping up its efforts to get teenagers in shape.

The Pima County Public Library is launching a nine-month long series of classes designed for teens and their parents to learn about nutrition, exercise, and overall health.

Starting on January 13, 2007, the Fit for Life program will allow teens to keep track of their health goals and earn prizes while also learning about many different ways to maintain a healthy weight.

There will also be a new section on the library Teen Zone website, http://www.lib.ci.tucson.az.us/teenzone that will be dedicated to teen health and wellness.

Some of the classes offered will include:

S.W.A.T (Strength Wellness Athletic Training) – A personal trainer will teach some of the latest fitness training techniques and provide nutrition information too!

Yoga, martial arts and nutrition classes will be given at several library branches.

Dance, Dance, Revolution! Come and join other teens and get your heart pumping with Dance, Dance Revolution games at the library.

UA Cheerleaders – See how they stay fit and learn a few new healthy moves.

The library is also partnering with the YMCA to allow families to check out one week memberships to the club to try out new exercise classes.
