NEW DELHI (AP) — Officials say at least 42 people are dead following a rain-triggered landslide in southern India.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue in the area. A state flood control official says the landslide demolished nearly 300 tin-roofed mud huts yesterday.
Fourteen bodies were pulled from the debris yesterday and another 28 have been recovered today. Officials say eight other people have been hospitalized.
The area is a popular tourist destination, but none of the injured or killed is a foreigner.
