SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — President Barack Obama is being treated to a friendly welcome in his first visit to South Korea, and he says the nation's alliance with the United States is stronger than ever.
The president joined President Lee Myung-bak (lee myuhng bahk) at the Blue House, South Korea's version of the White House. Obama was treated to a grand welcoming ceremony before talks began.
Obama stood on red-carpeted steps and looked out on military regiments in colorful garb and flagwaving children. He called it the most spectacular ceremony he's enjoyed on a state visit during his travels.
America's relations with South Korea, a crucial Asian ally, are on an upswing. South Korea is Obama's final stop on his weeklong trip to Asia.
