BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — A new blackout has been hitting parts of Rio de Janeiro, just two weeks after Brazil's last massive outage.

The city's glitzy beachside tourist districts lost power for hours in the sweltering summer heat. The power company says only 12,000 clients were affected when the outage began before dawn in Rio's beach district.

But lights were also out in Copacabana, Ipanema and Lagoa. All told, more than 250,000 people live in the four popular tourist destinations.

The blackouts come two weeks after outages left more than 60 million people in the dark across Brazil. The blackouts raised questions about the nation's ability to host the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
