DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — A search through the submerged cabins of a waterlogged ferry in Bangladesh has raised the death toll to 58.

Scores of passengers are believed trapped inside more than a day after the boat sank in southern Bangladesh.

The M.V. Coco was packed with hundreds of travelers leaving Dhaka to head home for the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha when it went down late Friday. It started to take on water as it arrived at Nazirhat town, 64 miles south of the capital.

Authorities say there were no passenger lists, so it's unclear how many people were aboard the vessel, but Dhaka's private ETV television station says it could have been carrying more than 1,500 people. ATN television says as many as 80 people are unaccounted for.

The search for more victims began after a rescue boat righted the ferry.
