PERUGIA, Italy (AP) — A defense lawyer for an American student accused of killing her British roommate has urged an Italian court to give his client back her life.

Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend are being tried for the 2007 slaying of Meredith Kercher. They deny wrongdoing.

In closing arguments, a defense lawyer challenged evidence in the case, and accused prosecutors of changing their minds about the alleged motive for the attack.

But in his own closing remarks, a prosecutor said Knox had lashed out at the murder victim on the night of the killing, for having complained about her promiscuous behavior. The two were sharing an apartment.

A verdict by the eight-member jury is expected by the end of the week. Prosecutors are requesting life prison sentences.
