Print Outlook Express address book

Q.  I’m using Outlook Express and wondered if there is some way I can print my Address Book?

A.  You sure can. Open your OE Address book (the process is similar for Outlook), then click File > Print. On the Print screen, under Print Style or Define Styles, you can select either Memo, Business Card or Phone List format. The Memo format prints all information associated with each contact. The Businses Card format, not surprisingly, prints the information you would normally find on a business card, such as your name, company, phone number, email address. The Phone List option prints home, business, cell, fax and any other related numbers.

If you're not sure what any of the options do, click the question mark (?) in the top right-hand corner of the window, then click whatever option or instruction is unclear. (Hint: Clicking the question mark and selecting an item to view additional information works in most Windows program.)

To customize a printout, click Properties or Preferences, select the paper size, type or orientation to suit your desired style.

Q.  I saved a lot of files to a CD-R, but when I try to work on them, they are all “read only.”  I don’t know how that happened, but is there some way I can change it so I can edit the files?

A.  Your files became “read only” when they were transferred to the CD, which is normal. This occurs because you can't edit files as they exist on the CD-R, but if you copy them back to your hard drive, you can edit them until the cows come home -- assuming you don’t mind cows in your residence.

Once you copy the files back to your hard drive, you can highlight all the files in any folder by clicking one of the files, then pressing CTRL + A.  With the files highlighted, right-click any one of them and select Properties. Click to remove the check mark beside "Read Only," then click OK.

Mr. Modem's Sites of the Week:

Brand Names Search Engine
Have you ever tried to locate the official Web site for a brand or product and couldn’t find it?  With this search engine, you can search or browse more than 15,000 company and product Web sites. Categories in the directory include Celebrities, Sports, Services, Pets, and Personal.

Presidential Recordings
Between 1940 and 1973, Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon secretly recorded approximately 5,000 hours of conversations. No need to reach for your slide rule, I already did the math: 5,000 hours is more than 200, 24-hour days or almost two years of 8-hour days. This site is maintained by the University of Virginia and is provided for researchers and the pathologically curious. Vitally important, world-altering, recorded conversations include Truman’s discussions prior to bringing World War II to an end, JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and LBJ ordering a pair of pants.

Vocation Vacations
Let's say you've always dreamed of raising chinchillas professionally, but you’re feeling trapped because you can’t quit your job, sell your home, and sink your life savings into a chinchilla farm. Wouldn't it be great if you could take a week and experience the exciting life of a chinchilla breeder? That's the philosophy behind Vocation Vacations, where you can team up with an expert in your fantasy field, then walk the walk and talk the talk for period of time. Vocations include everything from acting to yoga. If you aspire to be a men’s room attendant, you can do that, too, though if that’s your dream job, I think you may have larger issues to address.
