Q. Can you explain how to print just a portion of an email or a Web page? Every time I try to do that, I end up printing many more pages than I need. Thanks, Mr. M.

A. If you only want to print specific text from an email, Web page, or other document, your ability to do that is governed by your printer software. Most current printers will accommodate selective printing, so here’s how it is generally done. There may be some slight variations with your specific printer, however.

First, using your mouse, select (highlight) the text you would like to print by placing your mouse pointer at the start of the text, then hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to the end of the text you want to print. Release the left mouse button and the text will be selected or highlighted.

Next, click File > Print. In the Print Range section of the Print window that appears, you should be able to check “Selection,” then print as you normally would. Only your selected text will appear on the printed page.

Q. Every now and then I encounter a “404 Error,” but I have no idea what I’m supposed to do about it. Can you shed any light on this?

A. The infamous 404 Error usually appears when you’re attempting to visit a Web site. When that happens, many users assume that the page doesn’t exist or that there’s a problem with the Web site itself. That’s not always the case. Simply clicking the Refresh or Reload button on your browser will often resolve the problem. This quick-fix can also work when you encounter a Web page that takes forever to slither onto your screen. Click Stop, then Refresh or Reload the page. Sometimes it will load almost instantaneously the second time around. If not, try the site again later in the day. The 404 Error you’re seeing might be a transitory situation that will resolve on its own.

Q. I’m using MSN Explorer for email, but I can’t find the BCC field. Can you explain how I can have the BCC field appear so I can send mail to multiple people without revealing their email addresses to everybody else?

A. Using MSN Explorer, on the Write Email screen, click More > Show BCC. That’s all there is to it. Outlook Express users frequently have a similar problem, so if you’re using OE and you don’t see a BCC address field, click View > All Headers when composing a message.

Beginners Guide to Making Sushi
Many people who try sushi quickly become addicted to the Japanese delicacy; others have recurring nightmares and their lives are never the same. If you fall into the former category, here you can learn how to make sushi at home, should you be so inclined. I don’t know about you, but nothing says “party” quite like “amateur sushi.”

Wilderness Survival
How well would you do in a survival situation? Could you build a shelter? Could you light a fire without matches? Could you forage for food and purify water? If the door to the mini-bar was jammed, could you dial Room Service? The contents of this site are taken from actual U.S. Army training manuals, the pages of which can be boiled to make a lovely tea.
