Ixnay on cable sharing

By Mr. Modem

Q. Is there anything that prevents me from sharing my high-speed Comcast Internet connection with my neighbors by using a wireless router?

A: Absolutely. It’s called the agreement that you entered into with your cable Internet provider. Most cable access provider agreements contain language similar to the following excerpt from Comcast’s High Speed Internet Terms of Service Agreement, specifically Section IX of its Acceptable Use Policy -- in case you haven’t committed it to memory. It states that you may not “resell the Service or otherwise make available to anyone outside the premises the ability to use the Service (i.e. Wi-Fi or other methods of networking), in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, or on a bundled or unbundled basis. The Service is for personal and noncommercial use only, and you agree not to use the Service for operation as an Internet service provider..." So the short answer is, “Fughetaboutit.”

Q. How do I delete recently opened documents that are listed when I click Start > Documents in Windows XP?

A. To delete that list of 15 most-recently viewed documents, right-click the Start button, then select Properties. If you have Start Menu selected, click the Customize button, followed by the Advanced tab. At the bottom you'll see the “List my most recently opened documents” option and the Clear List button.

If, after selecting Properties, you have Classic Start Menu selected, click the Customize button, followed by the Clear button to clear the list.

Mr. Modem's Sites of the Week:

iSerentiy
Bring a little peace and tranquility to your office with this soothing site. Iserenity has 31 different sound and image "environments" that will help you relax. Of course, if your computer is on the fritz and the soothing environments won’t play, you’re talking about a whole new level of stress. Bonus Tip: Explore the different sounds with your speaker volume tuned low. My speakers were too loud when I tried the “Fan Fair” environment and I jumped about four feet in the air when the $&#* soothing environment started to play. Soothing? I’ll give you soothing…

Robert's Rules of Order
In 1876, General Henry M. Robert took it upon himself to bring the rules of the American Congress to the great unwashed general public with the publication of the Pocket Manual of Rules of Order. It sold half a million copies before the current revision made Robert’s Rules of Order synonymous with points of order, motions, and other snooze-inducing procedures. “All those in favor of never forgiving General Robert for inflicting his rules upon us, please signify by saying ‘Aye.’ Do we have a second? So moved.”
