(AP) — Kurt Warner threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns and Arizona's defense stifled Brett Favre (farv) and the Minnesota Vikings in a stunningly one-sided 30-17 victory for the Cardinals last night. Favre set an NFL record for consecutive appearances, but game No. 283 in a row was no night to remember for him or the rest of the Vikings. The 40-year-old quarterback, who had just three interceptions in the first 11 games, was picked off twice and sacked three times.
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — No. 22 Arizona will face 20th-rated Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30 in San Diego. It's a rematch of the 1998 Holiday Bowl, where the Wildcats rallied to defeat the Cornhuskers 23-20. The Wildcats drew the bid one day after wrapping up an 8-4 season with a 21-17 win at No. 20 USC -- giving Arizona a share of second place in the Pac-10.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant scored 26 points and Ron Artest added 15 points and five steals as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns 108-88 last night. Pau Gasol (pow gah-SOHL') had 14 points for the Lakers, who improved to an NBA-best 16-3. Amare Stoudemire had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Suns, who played in their sixth city in 10 days.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Willie Warren scored 25 points, and Oklahoma relied on strong 3-point shooting to build an early lead on its way to a 79-62 victory over Arizona on Sunday night. Tiny Gallon added 14 points and Tony Crocker scored 13 as Oklahoma opened a double-digit lead in the first 8 minutes and never trailed. Nic Wise scored 15 points for the Wildcats.
