PHOENIX (AP) -- The late Bob Moran has been inducted as the fifth member of Arizona Sports Writer's Hall of Fame.

Moran's selection was announced Monday at the annual meeting of the Arizona chapter of Associated Press Sports Editors. The chapter is made up of newspapers throughout the state.

Moran, who covered collegiate sports for three decades for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson and the East Valley Tribune, died March 4 after a 3 1/2-year battle with stomach cancer.

Moran joins Corky Simpson, Joe Gilmartin, the late Steve Schoenfeld and Abe Chanin as members of the hall.

The meeting was held at Chase Field, with Arizona Diamondbacks managing partner Jeff Moorad and club president Derrick Hall. Both talked about the organization's transformation over the past few years into a budget-conscious, family-friendly operation.

Hall said he hopes the Diamondbacks can keep their spring training facility in Tucson, but acknowledged concern because the Chicago White Sox have announced their intention to move.

That could trigger a chain reaction that could pave the way for the Colorado Rockies and the Diamondbacks to leave Tucson.

Hall said the franchise hopes to remain in Tucson with three other teams, but added "we are listening" to proposals to move elsewhere.

Arizona Daily Star sports editor Shannon Conner was elected Arizona APSE president for 2008-09. She succeeds Arizona Republic sports editor Mark Faller.
