CAVE CREEK/ CAREFREE - Two towns close in proximity, but distinctly different in character. Cave Creek and Carefree are two towns with a rich history, which they work to preserve everyday. Carefree has become a center for contemporary southwestern culture, full of the arts, while Cave Creek has staked its claim in preserving the old west.
Around both towns there are reminders of the Native American tribes who once inhabited the area. Over a thousand years ago the Hohokam settled in the area and later the Yavapai Indians. Remains such as their homes and clay pottery can still be seen preserved in the area.
The desert landscape of open sky, rolling hills, desert washes and mountains surrounding the area is known as the “Desert Foothills”. Both towns have an arid desert landscape, but with a 2,500 foot elevation which helps with growth of cactus and other flora.
Cave Creek and Carefree are bordered on the north by the Tonto National Forest and have grown into a Phoenix suburb, seeing a boost in population.
Cave Creek has a population of 4,370 and Carefree is a little smaller with 3,310 residents.
